Thank you for deciding to come along to the Onkaparinga City Concert Band! We’re sure you’ll enjoy the motivated, inclusive and relaxed atmosphere, and we hope you will become a valued member of our band.
Please take a few moments to fill out the Member Details Form, either electronically, or by printing and completing.
We would also appreciate completing the photo consent form.
There are two ensembles currently running under the Onkaparinga City Concert Band brand:
Hopgood Wind Ensemble
Named in honour of founding member Don Hopgood and his late wife Raelene, the Hopgood Wind Ensemble is our development band; designed to feed into the Concert Band. It is intended to be an enjoyable and educational ensemble for the developing or less-experienced musician regardless of age, and is perfect for those learning a second instrument. Under the direction of Chris Bickley, the band performs many different styles of music at various community events. They rehearse Fridays 6:30pm – 7:30pm.
Concert Band
The organisation’s main ensemble, the Concert Band is for more experienced musicians and performs a wide variety of music at approximately AMEB Grade 3 and above. It aims to provide a family-friendly, inclusive environment to promote the enjoyment of music within the Onkaparinga Community. The band performs at many community events including ANZAC Day, Christmas Pageants, and Australia Day. An active member of the South Australian Bands Association, the Concert Band also competes in State Band Championships annually. They are led by Terry Bickley and rehearse Fridays 7:45pm – 9:30pm.
We are currently rehearsing at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 20 Ragamuffin Drive Hallett Cove.
The band has a public Facebook Page and Instagram which we would love you and your family/friends to Like/Follow, just search Onkaparinga City Concert Band.
We also have a private Facebook Group for current members which we would encourage you to join. Simply search Onkaparinga Concert Band Current Members Only and request to join the group to keep up to date on news and performances, as well as current music.
We manage your availability for our performances through a service called “Muzodo”. You will be sent an email invite, so please just change the password to create your account – you can then respond Yes/No/Maybe to our performances and keep up to date on our Gig Calendar! They also have a great app.
If you have any questions, please feel free to approach Rob Thornton (President), Lachlan Wilson (Secretary), or Terry Bickley (Music Director) who should be able to answer all your queries.
Again, on behalf of all our members, welcome!
